Frisky and adventurous, our minds meander into a titillating daydream about the little partners we call sex toys. If the first stop on their journey is Vibrator Junction, our imaginations are far from alone. When most sexplorers think of toys-they think vibrator. These little treats can be incredibly stimulating, increasing blood flow and sending your senses to new heights. Add lubricant and you might be the first woman to land on the moon. But before you go off half cocked, I suggest marking your favourites on this list of basics. Goldilocks isn’t the only who deserves to have it juuuust right.
Power-Bring your own batteries! Or, put your rocket in a socket. I like the lightweight and portable aspects of battery-operated vibrators, and their smorgasbord of sizes, shapes and colours. Although a little harder on your wallet, their electric cousin can offer greater quality, endurance and power, and you can still get mobility with the rechargeable variety.
Size-As you give yourself a hand, you want a vibrator that is easy to handle, and able to manoeuvre to suit your needs in making the magic happen.
Cost-Our mother always told us: we get what we pay for. (I wonder if she meant vibrators?). The more change you can find under the couch cushions, the better quality you will enjoy, but this is not to say you can’t be happy with the more modest models.
Material-Once you zero in on the right material for your optimal texture and comfort, you are one step closer to your pleasure principle. Choose from hard plastic or rubber (silicone, plain, jelly or natural), being mindful of any allergic or chemical reaction you may have.
Purpose-How will you get your groove on? The vibrator you choose can depend on the way you want to use it. I am of the majority that prefers hard plastic for clitoral stimulation. For penetration, most go with silicone and soft rubber. While it’s hard to find a vibrator designed to play for both teams, I have found that a rubber job with its motor near the tip can be the most versatile.
Type of vibration-”Not all vibrators are created equal” is especially true of the way they dance. Traditional vibrating at different power levels is just the beginning. Gyrating and pulsating are some of the ways today’s vibrators thrill us by coloring outside the lines.
The players-Using your vibrator for solo or partner play can help you decide which way to go. Aside from the basic variables, choices I’ve encountered include handle length and wearability. A coming together of the minds may be in order before someone hits “order.”
Care and cleaning-I like to know what I’m getting into (usually). Different materials require different lubricants and cleaning routines, and some vibrators-like women-can be higher maintenance than others.
Noise level-We know our own tolerance for audio while we’re trying to concentrate on very important bedroom (or whatever room) business. Most vibrators come with a noise level rating.
With your checklist checked, vibrator of choice in hand, and finger on the trigger … you have lift-off.
